Metal parts, including steel, iron, bronze, and aluminum, are placed in a basket and immersed in a tank filled with fluidized hot sand scrubs. This process efficiently scrubs, burns off, and removes organic material without damaging or warping the work pieces. Cleaning cycles last from 20 to 40 minutes at a temperature of 800 to 850 deg. F, tailored to the load's mass and organic content to be removed. Once cleaned, the basket is lifted out for cooling. Thanks to the sand's fluidizing action that removes loose ash coatings, the parts are ready for use with minimal if any post-cleaning.
